Renowned qawwali maestro Chanchal Bharti provided a befitting grand finale to the Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi’s (CSNA) Basant Utsav-2016 at Tagore Theatre, here today.

Akademi chairperson Kamal Arora welcomed the chief guest Anurag Agarwal, Secretary, Home and Cultural Affairs, Chandigarh, and Jitender Yadav, Excise and Taxation Commissioner, Chandigarh, who was the guest of honour.

Amid applause, Chanchal Bharti commenced with a divine composition ‘Allah hu…’ before presenting a sufiana kalaam ‘Bahut kathin hai dagar panghat ki…’ and ‘Chhap tilak sa cheeni…’, a classic by Hazrat Amir Khusro.

Chanchal presented a qawwali-numa ghazal, ‘Akelapan kyi din se sata raha hai…’

On public demand, she presented the boisterous number, ‘Dma dam mast qalander’. She embellished her recital with soothing shays and rubayiat. She was accompanied by Taj Bharti and Naseem Bharti on harmonium, Zaved and Ghanshyam on tablas, Aman Bharti on dholak, Naseem on electric benjo and also on chorus while Tajjudin provided brilliant vocal support. — TNS

Presentations by the Chanchal Bharti on 2nd day (21/10/2018) of “Qawali Festival” being organised by North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala (Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India) from October 20 to 22, 2018 at Tagore Theatre, Chandigarh.

Melody, diction and rhythm of Urdu poetry, weaved in musical patterns, came alive as renowned “qawwali queen” Chanchal Bharti, along with nine artistes, performed during the second day of the ongoing ‘Qawwali Mahotsava’ at Tagore Theatre here on Sunday.

Amid applause, Chanchal Bharti and her troupe commenced with devotional composition ‘Tera jalwa hai har su, Allah hu’. The spiritual sentiment melted into love and affection in the next qawwali ‘Ye jalwa yaar ka hai’ as the troupe captivated the audience. Chanchal Bharti, while explaining the meaning of Urdu phrases, established an instant rapport with the audience. Chanchal got virtually lost in scintillating reverie while rendering Hazrat Amir Khusro’s ‘Bahut kathin hai dagar panghat ki’. After another ghazal ‘hum bhi yun zindagi bitayenge’ by Shaan Sabri, the audience was treated to the concluding spell of ‘Qawwali muqabla’ between Chanchal Bharti and young singer Shaan Sabri.

Indian Embassy for Nepal announces Mehfil-E-Qawwali in Kathmandu Nepal. It is set to organize the program in Nepal Academy Hall, Kamaladi Kathmandu. Indian Culture Centre offers regular classes on Classical Hindustani Vocal Music, Tabla, yoga and Bharatnatyam Dance.
